WITH millions of pensioners set to lose winter fuel payments under changes being brought in by the government, there will inevitably be more people facing the eat vs heat challenge this winter.

The good news is that residents of Calne have several organisations and groups to turn to for help. Not least of all Heart of the Community who will once again be operating as a registered warm space with the added benefit of a hot meal and activity. All on a 'what you can afford' basis.

A trustee for Heart of the Community said: "It's been an interesting time since we moved to Coleman's Farm and a lot has changed in the almost 40 months we have been here.

"We acknowledge that the communities needs have altered over time, and the organisation has changed to reflect this.

"While we are now operating at the community centre 3 days a week, this enables us to support our guests outside of centre where needed and appropriate, and of course to catch up with administrative and fundraising tasks."

Work never stops for the people at Heart of the Community, in July, trustee Ian Wakeham, took part in a sponsored skydive and raised just over £500 for the charity. Summer was also the time planning for Christmas bagan and they are already fully booked for their Christmas lunch which includes a visit from Santa who will be distributing the gifts under the tree.

Heart of the Community is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday with every alternate Friday being a free family fun bingo evening. Find out more about them here: https://www.heart-of-the-community.org/
