THE Black Horse pub in Cherhill will be closed until further notice after it's landlady was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for driving while disqualified.

Amanda Gail Hickling, 61 of Main Road in Cherhill was disqualified from driving until April 2026 but was spotted driving a Nissan Qashqai by an on-duty Roads Policing officer on the A4361 at Broad Hinton on Friday afternoon (21/02).

Checks showed that Hickling had 24 penalty points on her driving licence and no car insurance policy before she was stopped. She was arrested, charged and remanded in custody to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court the following morning where she pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and without third party insurance.

She was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for a further 18 months. Hickling now holds 36 points on her licence as a result of the stop.

This incident came just over one month after she was caught committing the same offence on Westbrook Road in Calne on J7th anuary for which she spent four weeks in prison.

PC Oliver Venton said: "Hickling showed a blatant disregard for the law when she chose to drive her car knowing she had recently gone to prison for the same offence.

"After being pulled over, she insisted that she was taking the driving ban seriously and that she had simply "pushed her luck" to drive to the shop."

The future of the Black Horse pub is unclear, a post on the Facebook page announced it would remain closed until further notice.
