A series of incidents involving an intoxicated man on The Strand in Calne have prompted police intervention and community safety measures as authorities respond to growing concerns about his aggressive behavior and anti-social conduct.
On Friday, 29th November, officers were alerted to the presence of a visibly intoxicated man in the town centre.
Paramedics who arrived on the scene assessed the individual, determining that he had sustained only a superficial injury following a fall.
However, while being treated, the man exhibited aggressive behaviour towards the attending officers, leading to his arrest on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, as well as assaulting two emergency workers.
Local neighbourhood officers have been working in connection with this individual since the beginning of the week, as he has reportedly been causing disruptions and harassing women and girls in the town centre. In an effort to curb his behaviour, he was issued a Community Protection Warning (CPW) on Saturday, which outlined several conditions he must adhere to.
Despite these warnings, the man's conduct escalated, resulting in his arrest on Wednesday, 4th December, on suspicion of stalking. He has since been released on bail with strict conditions while investigations continue.
Following a breach of the CPW, the man was served a Community Protection Notice (CPN), which includes a power of arrest for any further violations of its terms.
PCSO Mark Cook said: “The behaviour of this male over the past week has been totally unacceptable.
In the meantime, Calne Police encourage the community to report any instances of anti-social behaviour by calling 101, dialing 999 in emergencies, or utilising the online reporting form.
