The Wiltshire Rural Crime Team is appealing for witnesses following the disturbing discovery of multiple dead ducks in Station Road, Calne, on 3rd January.

A member of the public reported finding the birds around 8am in a wooded area near the skatepark, prompting immediate investigation.

Initial examinations have revealed that the breasts of the ducks had been removed, with an X-ray of the birds indicating that they may have been shot with some form of weapon.

The investigation is ongoing, as officers work to determine whether the ducks were harmed locally or brought from another area.

PCSO Mark Cook of the Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team expressed deep concern over the incident, saying: “Understandably, we are greatly concerned that these ducks have been killed. It is unknown at this stage if these ducks had been harmed in Calne or have been transported from another area and left in woodland near to Station Road.”

In response to the alarming discovery, additional patrols have been deployed in Castlefields Park and Station Road to enhance community safety.

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior observed around local waterways.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Station Road or Castlefields Park and may have witnessed anything unusual is encouraged to come forward.

Those with information that could assist the investigation should contact the Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting reference number 54250000987.
