THE careers programme run by Kingsbury Green Academy has been termed 'one of the best' by Alison Macrae, HR manager at Riverview Portfolio in Calne.

Riverview Portfolio has been employing ex-Kingsbury Green Academy students for decades, thanks to an excellent relationship with careers advisors at the school.

Alison said: “The Kingsbury Green Academy careers team are second to none in engaging with local employers, I was involved in a mock interviews session at the end of last term, and the other employers all agreed that the school is hugely proactive in building relationships between students and local firms and organisations. This leads on to genuine job offers and successful careers for many students interested in a range of subjects.

“Last year we had one student, Callum Kick, spend a week with Riverview Portfolio on work experience, and he was able to learn about accountancy, payroll, how to set up companies and some company secretarial work. We always make sure we tell students about career options, and encourage them to talk to us about what interests them, and then give feedback to Kingsbury Green Academy.

“We are delighted that Callum will be joining us after his A level results on an accounting apprenticeship. We were very impressed by how smart, engaged and interested he was during his week with us, and are looking forward to having him as a new member of staff. He follows in the footsteps of several other Kingsbury Green Academy students, one of whom is now a director with us and another is an accounting manager. And our MD, Dan Farthing, also studied at the school.”

Catherine Young, careers leader at Kingsbury Green Academy, said the school believes passionately in giving students the information, experience and encouragement to be confident about making the right careers choices for themselves.

“The world of work is very different from the world of education, and we want students to have as much contact with and exposure to real jobs in real companies and organisations as they can. We are so fortunate to have a significant number of employers who work very closely with us throughout the year on many different initiatives.

“It means they can tell us, and our students, what their industries need now and in the future, and give them hands-on experience in real-life situations. We’re delighted that Callum is continuing the success of Kingsbury Green Academy students joining Riverview Portfolio, and I’m sure he will do as well as the others.”
