PCSOs patrolling the High Street in Chippenham had a timely result today (20/10), when they came across a man carrying bottles of stolen alcohol.

The man, in his 30's had several bottles of alcohol, one still with a security tag. Officers traced the alcohol back to Tesco in Emery Gate but the man made off.

He was quickly located and arrested on suspicion of theft and following a search, he was also arrested on suspicion of possession of suspected class A drugs. and has been taken to Gablecross custody for questioning.

Sgt Mike Tripp said: “We are committed to supporting local businesses all year round and this week we are supporting the national week of action to support businesses and reduce crime – in particular, shoplifting.

“This morning, our vigilant PCSOs suspected a theft had taken place and we were able to arrest a suspect quickly, potentially protecting further businesses from being targeted.”
